The Assad regime and the military solution

Yahia Maktabi

Daraa is a city located in southern Syria near the border with Jordan, from which the Syrian revolution against the criminal dictatorial Assad regime sparked in March 2011, where the regime’s security forces arrested a group of primary school students, who were severely tortured and their fingernails pulled out.

Their only fault was that they spontaneously wrote on the walls of some schools the phrase (It’s your turn, doctor), which is directed at the head of the criminal regime, Bashar al-Assad, given that he studied medicine! At the same time, it implies that the spark of revolutions in the Arab region has reached Syria and it is time for a change to replace the criminal, dictatorial Assad regime with a democratic government based on justice, equality, citizenship, rule of law, pluralism and freedom of expression. However, the criminal Assad regime faced the peaceful demonstrations that extended to all Syrian cities by killing protesters, arresting them, forcibly disappearing and torturing them to death (The well-known Caesar’s case as an example), then the Assad regime used all kinds of weapons, including internationally prohibited ones, such as barrel bombs, chemical weapons and others. The regime also adopted the tactic of siege, starvation and displacement in many areas, including Eastern Ghouta in the countryside of Damascus, the Old City and the northern countryside of Homs, as well as the city of Aleppo, and as a result of all these crimes committed by the criminal Assad regime, about half a million Syrians were killed, including 22,000 children and 14,000 women, in addition to the displacement of half of the Syrian people (about 11 million peoples were internally and externally displaced). International organizations have documented these crimes with evidence and documents, including the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, which has reported 24 reports so far.

This narration clarifies (to the readers) the real essence of the criminal tyrannical regimes we are talking about. The Assad regime has returned, after series of crimes and massacres are considered war crimes and crimes against humanity, to breach, with the support of Iranian-backed terrorist militias, the agreement reached in 2018 between the Americans and the Russians with Jordanian participation, whereby a cease-fire was established and settlements were made for the submission of some revolutionaries and the displacement of others with their families to northern Syria!

About four months ago, the Assad regime adopted a policy of siege and starvation in an area of Daraa called (Daraa al-Balad) and prevented the entry of all kinds of foodstuffs, including flour and bread! And then it started bombarding it with heavy artillery and guided missiles in a narrow geographical area, which resulted in the killing of dozens of civilians, most of them women and children, whose names have been documented. This fierce attack aims to force the people of (Daraa al-Balad) to accept new humiliating conditions and to allow an Iranian penetration into an area considered under Russian influence.  The people of (Daraa al-Balad) had no choice but to negotiate and reach a new agreement in order to stop the siege, starvation and killing, and that was done.

The criminal Assad regime will remain eager to kill everyone who says (no to your tyranny and criminality). This part of the series of criminality of the Assad regime will not be the last. The Assad regime disregards all international resolutions, especially the Geneva Communique 1 and Resolutions 2118 and 2254, and obstructed all the negotiation rounds taking place in Geneva until the moment to reach a just political solution.

The criminal Assad regime has an undeclared plan to displace two other million Syrians to reduce the burden of living necessities, as this regime suffers from a difficult economic crisis due to the impact of the sanctions imposed on it as a result of its crimes. It cannot provide fuel, gas, electricity and other basic necessities for the lives of the Syrians in areas it controls, in addition to the high prices of food supplies and a sharp drop in the exchange rate of the Syrian pound. All these difficulties do not mean anything to the criminal Assad regime. What is important to Assad is that he stays in power even over the necks and bodies of Syrians, and this regime has declared since the beginning of the Syrian revolution that (Assad or we burn the country).

The Assad regime’s plan to displace two million people will definitely affect Europe, because most of these displaced people will seek to reach it by all means. On the other hand, emptying the country of the indigenous people will allow the settlement of more sectarian aliens brought by Iran. Thus, the opportunity will be ripe for the return of the sectarian discourse adopted by the terrorist ISIS, and a circle of violence, hatred and terrorism will dominate the region and destabilize security and stability of the region, and it will have repercussions on the entire world.

Stopping the flux of additional refugees to Europe, the return of the first steps to stability in our region, stopping Iran’s cross-border project (exporting the Khomeinist revolution), and eliminating the terrorist ISIS and its ideology are common goals between us. These goals can only be achieved by eliminating the criminal Assad regime and allowing the Syrians to start a new stage in the history of Syria away from tyranny, dictatorship and terrorism, and this is the responsibility of the international community, especially the United States of America and Europe, to help the Syrians achieve this.
